Volkswagen opens orders for the new Golf 8 Variant, the station wagon that features a 61 mm longer wheelbase than the sedan. At launch, three trim levels and three engines are available for the Golf 8 Variant, one of which is a hybrid with mild-hybrid MHEV technology.
Volkswagen Golf 8 Variant, characteristics and dimensions
The new Volkswagen Golf 8 Variant is 4,633 mm long (66 mm more than the previous version), 1,789 mm wide and 1,483 mm high (with roof rails); the wheelbase now measures 2,680 mm (+50 mm compared to the previous one, +61 mm compared to the sedan). By way of comparison, the Golf 8 sedan is 4,284mm long and the wheelbase measures 2,619mm. Five passengers can sit comfortably in the Golf 8 Variant because the longer wheelbase mainly favours a more spacious interior.
The internal length has increased by 48mm to 1,798mm . The space in the trunk is 611 / 1,642 liters . Here there are practical bag hooks , lashing eyes and, on request, the side trim also houses 12 V and 230 V power sockets , as well as activation of the electrically foldable towbar .
And when both hands are occupied with shopping bags or luggage, the optional electrically operated tailgate can alternatively be opened with a simple gesture: just a movement of the foot under the rear bumper.
Volkswagen Golf 8 Variant hybrid mild-hybrid MHEV
For the first time, the Golf 8 Variant is available with 48 V eTSI mild-hybrid technology, which allows you to assist the TSI gasoline direct-injection turbo engine in acceleration and to switch it off when possible, so as to proceed by inertia.
All eTSI engines are associated with a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission. At launch, the 110 HP 1.0 eTSI EVO is available, which will be joined by other units in the coming months.
The Golf 8 Variant is also available with a 2.0 TDI SCR Turbodiesel in two power levels: 115 hp mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox and 150 hp with 7-speed DSG dual clutch automatic transmission.
Both are equipped with twin dosing technology, which, thanks to two SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) catalysts with double AdBlue injection, reduces emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOX).
