The Mercedes-Benz EQ team has unveiled its plans for next season, the first in which Formula E will have the status of the FIA world championship. In addition to unveiling the new Silver Arrow 02, the team confirmed the drivers’ cup formed by the Dutch Nyck de Vries and the Belgian Stoffel Vandoorne.

Growing team

Last August, in the grand finale of the season, the Mercedes-Benz EQ closed the season with a flourish by winning the first double in the category, with the victory of Vandoorne and the second place of de Vries. In the 2021 season, the team will move forward in a sign of continuity and team principal, Ian James, explained: “We were really satisfied with the work done by Stoffel and Nyck. Both performed very well and gained experience with the team, simultaneously demonstrating their skills. They proved to be fast and to be able to manage these unique races ”.

Close-knit drivers

Stoffel Vandoorne is ready to face his third season in Formula E. So far he has disputed 24 ePrix, obtaining one win, two pole positions and four podiums. Last season he finished second in the drivers’ championship and now he seems willing to aim even higher. “It seems centuries have passed since the last race. We did some tests with the new car and it was nice to get back behind the wheel, but nothing can come close to the emotions of a race ”. Nyck de Vries made his debut during the sixth season of Formula E with Mercedes and confirmed himself as the best rookie of the season. “It’s been a bit of a strange year, with Covid-19 everything changed after a few races. I ended the season with a podium and can’t wait to get back into action in 2021.

The single-seater.

The Mercedes-Benz EQ Silver Arrow 02 will be the weapon with which Vandoorne and de Vries will face next season. The car is characterized by the classic silver livery with blue inserts, typical of the EQ brand. All the novelties of this car are under the hood, as the team has focused a lot on the development of the powertrain. After the private tests carried out over the past few weeks, the Mercedes-Benz EQ is now ready to face the next official commitment, the collective tests that the category will face from 27 November to 1 December. The Formula E World Championship will start on January 16, 2021, with a double race in Santiago de Chile.
