Mercedes-AMG has released the first official information on the new Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series , the most extreme version ever made of the Gran Turismo of Stuttgart which now gains a variant with the name “Black Series” reserved for sports cars since the mid-2000s. Most performing star.
The new engine of the GT Black Series is based on the already known 4-liter AMG twin-turbo V8 , but differs in one feature that brings it closer to racing cars: the crankshaft does not have a “cross” connecting rod arrangement like happens for most road models, but at 180 ° . It is therefore a flat drive shaft , or, for those who prefer the English terminology, a “flatplane” shaft.
A conception deliberately racing, which involves a different sequence of ignition (it is now 1-8-2-7 4-5-3-6) and significantly improved performance compared to the already fast while AMG GT R.
In fact, power goes from 585 to 730 hp and torque from 700 to 800 Nm , an increase in output that translates into acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 3.2 seconds , from 0 to 200 km / h in less than 9 seconds and a top speed of 325 km / h .
The revisitation of the V8 also involved moving the exhaust side into the warm internal “V” of the two cylinder banks, the adoption of specially designed camshafts and exhaust manifolds and turbochargers with higher flow rates (1,100 kg of air per hour, against the 900 kg / h of the AMG GT R at 7,000 rpm).
All this is accompanied by a profound reinterpretation of aerodynamics , which makes use of carbon fiber body components and the adoption of splitters, side skirts and a biplane wing with variable incidence specific to the model, which inside lets you breathe air. racing through the technical microfibre upholstery and a roll bar in steel tubes.
Further features and list price of the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series will be revealed later.
