450 hours of work just for painting
With the exception of the astronomical price tag of at least 335,000 euros, there is really a lot to like about the new McLaren 765LT. It’s absurdly fast and looks like it just hit the racetrack from a science fiction film. Even compared to the 720S, it looks particularly special. Maybe not as extraterrestrial as a Senna or a Speedtail, but they also cost more than three times as much.
Now buyers of a supercar, even if it is such a money grave, rarely leave it with the basic equipment. And the people with the really, really big wallets can always top it off and ask the guys at McLaren Special Operations for help. In the individual department of the sports car manufacturer, the upper limits are open and this new 765LT Strata is the perfect example.
You have probably already noticed the red and black paintwork. The application of the so-called “MSO Heritage Memphis Red” in connection with accents in “MSO Bespoke Cherry Black” alone devours 450 hours of work. More MSO goodies can be found behind the wheels, where you can examine the brake calipers in “Volcano Red” and “Azores”. Another eye-catcher is the carbon roof scoop, which directs air towards the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8.
Of course, MSO solvent customers are also happy to help with the interior of their 765LT. In this case, the seating and the carbon door sills are provided with a Strata graphic and the MSO logo. The Memphis red of the exterior can be found inside, among other things, behind the gearshift paddles and on the 12 o’clock mark on the steering wheel. https://www.youtube.com/embed/AqeODp8-RS8
The special Strata graphic is also used on the vehicle key, for those who find the normal key of a 765 too vulgar. A process that takes a mere 14 hours of work.
There will be only 765 units of the 765LT. The production for 2020 is already sold out. According to McLaren, the number of prospects for 2021 already exceeds production capacity. It remains to be seen how many of the interested parties actually sign a sales contract in the end.
