The new Kia Sportage was unveiled in China, in the preview of the Guangzhou Motor Show. This is the version intended for the domestic market, usually quite different from the one then produced for international (and also Italian) markets, but it can give a first idea of what could change. The European version, anticipated by some spy photos in recent weeks, is expected next spring.
The characteristics of the SUV
The images, taken from the China Autohome site, show a large glossy black tiger-nose grille, connected to the headlights, with some silver trim at the top. Even the optical groups have a different appearance, compared to the Kia models currently on the market, with a new shape. The images refer to the GT Line version, with also an orange front splitter.
The Kia Sportage 2021 for China is based on the Hyundai ix35 and offers some new features also at the rear, with lights inspired by the Sorento, the bumper with an orange band (to recall the color of the front splitter), and a double exhaust terminal. The Sportage lettering is large and takes up a large part of the rear, while on the side there are no particular novelties. The interior of the car has not been revealed, at least for the moment.
The new Sportage in spring
As we said, this may be a clue as to how the Kia Sportage could change for international markets. It will be based on the same platform as the Hyundai Tucson, revealed in September, and will increase in size. But we will have to wait a little longer: the presentation is expected next spring, but new advances could arrive in the coming months.
