BMW has recently launched the new M3 and M4 Coupe sports cars but is already working on the M sports variant of its future i4 electric car. This was reported by Markus Flasch, CEO of BMW Motorsport, who added that this model will debut next year. However, performance similar or superior to that offered by the new M3 and M4 Coupé should not be expected, which will remain the brand’s benchmarks in the sports car category.
The future BMW i4 M should have performance comparable to, for example, an M340i. Flasch has, in fact, highlighted how the technology of electric cars is not yet ready to create sports of the calibre of the M3. Obviously, we are not talking only about acceleration but also about all the other characteristics that have always identified the sports cars of the German company (driving dynamics, steering and weight, just to name a few).
Unfortunately, no other details have been anticipated and therefore it is not yet clear what the future BMW i4 M could look like. At the moment , only the specifications of the Concept i4 presented last March and which will serve as the basis for the production model are known. The car has a powertrain with an output of 530 hp (390 kW) capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km / h in 4 seconds. Powering the whole is an 80 kWh battery that will be able to offer an autonomy of up to 600 km.
Markus Flasch also added that high-performance hybrid models are being developed but that it is still early to reveal what these cars will be. All that remains, therefore, is to wait for further information from the German manufacturer.
